Virginia Lee Kimbrell

Virginia Lee (Fenter) Kimbrell, of Garland, Texas, was born on March 18, 1947 to B. A. and Jewell Catherine (Gilbert) Fenter. She passed away on Friday, May 29, 2020 of pulmonary fibrosis.
Virginia is survived by her husband of 49 years, David Kimbrell; her daughter, Michele (Hopkins) Byers; son-in-law, Darrell; grandson, Samuel; and granddaughter, Katherine. She is also survived by her extended Fenter, Kimbrell and Byers families, including numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her son, David Lee Kimbrell, her parents, and her sister, Carolyn (Fenter) Corder.
Virginia grew up in Van, Texas and graduated from Van High School in 1965 where she was active in 4H, played the flute in the band, and was the editor of the class yearbook. She began her career at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas in 1968 and retired in 2017. During her 49 years there, she made innumerable friends among her colleagues and clients, touching countless lives and staying in touch with many of them through her final days.
Virginia, known as Nanny to her grandchildren, and Ginny to many of her family and friends, enjoyed gardening and loving on her two shih tzu babies, Daisy and Bubba. Her cooking, especially her delicious buttermilk pies and cornbread dressing, was the highlight of every family gathering.
She adored her family and was especially proud of her grandchildren, always active at their sporting events and musical performances, and celebrating their academic achievements.
She was a kind, joyful, gentle, generous, uplifting, fiercely loyal, welcoming, sweet spirit- beautiful inside and out- an amazing woman who faced life’s trials with strength, bravery and grace.
In keeping with current community standards, and to allow her family and many friends to participate, memorial services will be held graveside on Friday, June 5 at 10am at Restland Memorial Gardens in Dallas, Texas.
