Carolyn Maples' Obituary
Virginia Carolyn Heaton Maples of Garland, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by her husband and daughters on September 11, 2024. She is now at home in Heaven with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Carolyn was born in Madison, Indiana to Virginia Ann and Charles Edward Heaton. She was the first of four daughters. Her father was a Major in the United States Army, and the family relocated frequently. She attended 13 different schools in 12 years, and she loved making new friends everywhere.
She graduated from Richardson High School in 1962, then attended North Texas State University (UNT) to study journalism. There, she met her future husband, Landon; they were married on August 1, 1964.
Carolyn was a wonderful wife and mother. In addition to raising their daughters, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, ceramics, and scrapbooking – especially with her best friend, Toni Domke. She loved a variety of music. Her favorites included Elvis Presley, Barbra Streisand, Neil Diamond, Queen, Adele, Dan + Shay, and many contemporary Christian artists. She also loved all things Christmas. An avid reader, her love of books led her to become a Library Aide at Liberty Junior High School for 22 years.
During retirement, Carolyn was active at Woodcreek Church. She served as a Stephen Minister, participated in Love Stitches, and was a member of the Seniors Community Group. She also sent sympathy cards on behalf of the church. She loved playing games, particularly Scrabble and Mexican Train.
Carolyn especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her caring nature and giving spirit, always thinking of others.
She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Landon Maples; daughters Ginger (Chris) Boyce of Rochester, Minnesota and Merissa Wiseman of Garland, Texas; grandchildren Taylor (Natalie) Boyce, Meredith Boyce, Jordan (Joshua) Sosin, Grant (Kaitlin) Boyce; great-grandchild Isaac Sosin; sisters Barbara Kirsch, Jane (Warren) Lunt, Joan Sangster; several nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Woodcreek Church in Richardson, Texas. A reception will follow.
