Virginia Wood Monteith's Obituary
Virginia Wood Monteith, a lifelong Dallas native, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2019. She was 96 years old and predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Edward Everett Monteith, Jr. She was a wonderful wife and mother, devoted to her family. She adored her three children and their spouses. But Virginia’s greatest joy was being “Mamaw” to her 7 grandchildren and “GG” to her 10 great grandchildren.Virginia was born in Dallas on December 2, 1922 to Belma and Horace Wood. Even though she was an only child, she had a large extended family that she grew up with in Oak Cliff, who were always a special part of her life. She graduated from Sunset High School. She attended SMU while working at General Electric, where she met her husband, Ed.Virginia and Ed enjoyed traveling with family and their wide circle of friends. They also enjoyed times spent with friends at Northwood Club, the Dallas Petroleum Club, Calliope Club and the Dallas Ski Club. They spent happy times at their vacation home at Horseshoe Bay, sharing it with friends and family.Virginia enjoyed her bridge group, her tennis friends and her water exercise class. She had a great love for animals, as evidenced by the many dogs and cats that shared her home throughout the years. She was active in the Assistance League of Dallas, volunteering as a Pink Lady at Childrens’ Medical Center and working at Prime Time Treasures-the League’s artisan gift shop. She was also a member of Dallas Woman’s Club, Marian Scruggs Garden Club and two-term President of Emanon Book Club. For a few years she worked part-time at Neiman-Marcus Northpark “just for the fun of it”! She and her family were long-time members of Northway Christian Church.Virginia is survived by her daughter, Ann Houseman (Frank), their children Donny Houseman (Casi) and Mary Kathryn Sneckner; daughter, Patty Browne (Bob), their children, Allison Weiss (Rob), Scott Browne (May) and Chris Browne (Ashley); son, Eddie Monteith,III (Eve) and their children Alex Monteith (Katie) and Chris Monteith. She is also survived by 10 great grandchildren-Olivia, Jackson, Juliette, River, Max, Amelia, Charlie, Layla, Texie and Aidan.The family would like to give special thanks to her devoted caregiver, Tirset Wonde. Funeral services will be held at Restland’s Wildwood Chapel on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 12:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
