Virginia T. Newman's Obituary
Newman, Virginia passed away quietly at home on Saturday the 3rd of September at age 92. She was born the 29th of May 1919 in Water Valley, Mississippi to Eugene and Virginia Hamblet Tarver. She moved to Ft Worth with her mother and older brother in the 1930s and graduated from Paschal High School in 1935. During the Second World War she served in the Coast Guard in Washington, DC. Following the war she moved to Dallas where she worked for the Veterans Administration. She married George Newman in 1955. After several years at home she returned to work in the 1970s and ’80s as a secretary and manager of rental properties for the Guion Gregg real estate firm in Snider Plaza. She had been a resident of University Park since 1955 and was a member of the Highland Park Presbyterian Church for 40 years. She always had a special fondness for her neighbors, keeping in touch with many who moved away. After her husband’s death in 1991 she joined the National Audubon Society and became an avid birder, travelling to Michigan, Panama and British Columbia amongst other locations to pursue her new hobby. Her greatest happiness came during her many trips to see her granddaughters in New Jersey, where she took great pride in their many accomplishments in academics and the arts. In addition to her grandchildren she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Lynn Buckley Newman of Morris Plains, NJ, as well as many nieces and nephews. The family will be accepting visitors at Restland Funeral Home from 5-8 on Thursday the 8th of September. All are welcome at a graveside service at 11 the following morning. Details regarding a memorial service to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Virginia’s memory to Dogwood Canyon Audubon at http.//www.dogwoodcanyonaudubon.org.
