Virginia Ozell Burks Hill's Obituary
Virginia Ozell Burks Hill went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 18, 2021.
Ozell was born on July 2, 1929 in Wood County, Texas to the late Vinson and Leba Burks. The family moved to Garland, Texas in 1941, including younger brother, James and sister, Dale. Ozell graduated from Garland High School in 1947, and then attended college at UT-Arlington. By this time two more sisters had been born, Lynda and Bobbie.
On June 30, 1950, she married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Boyd Hill at First Baptist Church in Garland. After serving 2 years in the Air Force, Boyd and Ozell returned to Garland. Boyd worked as a salesman for Kraft Foods and Ozell worked for various companies in the Garland area for the next 40+ years. They had two children, Jann and James Boyd (Jim) Hill. The family were very active members at First Baptist Church in Garland, where Boyd was a Deacon and Ozell attended and taught Bible studies, worked with children and volunteered in various capacities. She was a devoted wife, mother and Nana to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ozell was preceded in death by her parents, Vinson and Leba Burks; her husband, Boyd Hill; daughter, Jann Hill Skelton; son, Jim Hill; and her sister, Dale Burks Shotwell.
She is survived by her son-in-law, Paul Skelton; granddaughters, Emily George and Eleanor Nation; great-grandchildren – Ali and Marissa Wilkinson; Ranger and Ella Nation; brother, James Burks of Quitman; sisters Lynda Phillips of Winnsboro and Bobbie Edwards of Georgetown, TX.; and many nieces and nephews.
Ozell was a beautiful woman of great faith, grace and love. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She was loved by all and will be forever missed.
Funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church, Garland on Thursday, April 8 at 11:00 a.m.
