PULLEN, VIRGINIA NELL BURNS passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 23 in Houston, TX. She was born on April 23, 1923 in Nevada, Texas to William Claude Burns and Claudis Annette Burns. Virginia is preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Ray, her daughter Marsha Sue Pullen Hebert, grandson, Justin Howard Vaughn, and great-grandson, Landry James Steele. She is survived by her children, James Henry Vaughn, and wife Georgia, of Temple. TX, Carol Annette Pullen of Spring, TX, and John Marshall Pullen, and wife Mary, of Austin, TX. Virginia is also survived by five granddaughters, Holly Vaughn Steele, Lauren Hebert, Meghan Hebert Magruder, and Claire and Caroline Pullen; three great-grandchildren, Abbey Elizabeth Magruder, Tyler Justin Steele, and Georgia Kathryn Steele; and her sister, Sue Canup of McKinney, TX. Virginia’s vivacious spirit was on display early as a cheerleader for the Rockwall High Yellowjackets. After World War II, she married her high school sweetheart, Marshall Ray Pullen, and joined him at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. After his graduation, Marshall’s career in the oil & gas industry took Virginia and him to Shreveport and New Orleans, LA, St. Louis, MO, and Houston, TX. Virginia’s outgoing personality led to new and long-lasting friends in each of these cities. Along the way, she raised her four children in a warm and loving way. Her home was always the gathering point for her children and their friends, with plenty of food and motherly love dispensed to all. Special thanks and appreciation for the loving care provided our mother by the staff of Ultimate Care by God’s Servants the last several years. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Restland Funeral Directors at 13005 Greenville Ave., in Dallas, TX (800-749-7379). The family will receive friends at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 29 at Restland Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Children’s Hospital at Scott & White in Temple, TX in memory of her grandson, Justin Howard Vaughn, and her great-grandson, Landry James Steele.
