Virginia Hill Ziemer's Obituary
Virginia Hill Ziemer, 97, of Richardson, Texas, went to be with her Lord, Jesus Christ, on June 4, 2026. Virginia was born in a house in Big Spring, Texas, on May 28, 1929, to Robert Nelson Hill and Emma Mayme (Choate) Hill. She was the middle child of seven children. Virginia graduated from Big Spring High School in May 1946, graduated from the Dallas Methodist School of Nursing in October 1950, and earned her Registered Nurse certification after passing the state examination board in November 1950. She married Douglas Richard Ziemer on August 9, 1952, and remained his devoted wife until his death on October 3, 2000. Together they had two sons, David Elliott Ziemer, born July 3, 1956, and Michael Scott Ziemer, born April 19, 1959.
As a nurse, she began her career at Parkland Hospital. After their marriage, Virginia and Doug lived in Austin for several years, where she served as the primary breadwinner while helping Doug through graduate school as he earned a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. She worked as both a floor nurse and a surgical nurse at Austin's Seton Hospital. Shortly after the birth of David, the family moved to Dallas in pursuit of Doug's career at Texas Instruments. Their second son, Michael, was born in April 1959. After the birth of their two sons, Virginia focused on raising her children at the family home on Beechwood Lane for the next 10+ years. In the 1970s and early 1980s, Virginia returned to nursing, serving in various Dallas physicians' offices and periodically working as a school nurse in the Dallas Independent School District. She was a longtime member of Park Cities Baptist Church, where she participated in many church and Sunday School activities, hosted care groups, and volunteered in the church library. She was also very active in Meals on Wheels.
The family developed a love of travel. During the 1960s and 1970s, they traveled to more than 30 states, exploring the country together in a travel trailer creating wonderful cherished memories. Later in life, Virginia continued her love of travel, visiting Northern Europe, Australia, and New Zealand with church groups. She also enjoyed trips throughout the western United States with her sisters and her older brother, Bobby.
She loved decorating her home and tending her flower garden. She especially loved irises and violets.
Virginia loved her friends, her family, her nursing career, her church, and her Lord. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her loved ones find comfort in knowing that she has been reunited with friends and family who preceded her in death and that she is now experiencing the indescribable joy of living forever in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
