W. D. "Dub" Hill Jr.'s Obituary
HILL, W. D. “DUB” Age 93 was born in Gunter, Texas (in Grayson County) November 27, 1918 and moved to Dallas in 1919. He served for 4 years in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a graduate of East Texas State. He received his Masters degree from SMU. Hill was a math teacher at Adamson High School in Dallas ISD for 7 years and was the Executive Director for the Dallas Building Owners and Managers for 32 years. He was Active with the City of Dallas, serving on their boards and commissions including: Dallas Fire Council, Economic and Development council and others. He was a member of the board of Trustees at Methodist Hospital for 12 years. He taught High School Sunday School at Glen Oaks Methodist Church and he served on many boards at Preston Hollow United Methodist church. Hill is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Elizabeth Hopkins Hill and their 4 children: Daughters: Carolyn Sue and her husband Don Johnston. Marilyn Kay Hill, Sharon Elizabeth and her husband Carter Thurmond; and a son Richard Stephen Hill and his wife, Rae Fry Hill. Dub is also survived by 13 grand children whom he loved dearly. They are: Thomas Johnston and his wife Lauren Burke Johnston; Stephen Johnston, Suzanne Johnston, Megan Johnston and Preston Johnston; Kallie Fitzpatrick, Kimberly Fitzpatrick and Kyle Fitzpatrick; Carter Thurmond and Marshall Thurmond; and Tyler Hill, Chase Hill and Courtney Hill. He also had two great grandchildren: Adalee Brooke Johnston and Walker Dean Johnston; his sister, Lolita Underwood, nephew Jerry and Roxanne Plummer, and cousin Garnell Broussard. Dub Hill will be remembered for his enjoyment of life, his humor, and his love of sports and traveling and he ALWAYS had a GREAT ATTITUDE. His happiest times were on trips and the time he spent with his family. The family wishes to express their thanks for the staff and many wonderful caregivers at Sunrise on Hillcrest. A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00pm, Tuesday, July 10th at Preston Hollow United Methodist Church, 6315 Walnut Hill Ln, Dallas, TX 75230.
