W.H. "Dub" Bailey's Obituary
One of the last of that class of Texan who felt improperly attired when not wearing a Western hat and boots left us on June 24. Approaching his 98th birthday, W.H. “Dub” Bailey has at last gone home to be with his beloved Norma and his Lord, Jesus.
Though born 8/05/1926 in Lake Arthur, NM to the parentage of Ira Irl Bailey and Verna Marie Shinneman and along with elder brother Weldon (Jo), Dub got to Texas as soon as he could. He grew up in Lone Oak (Hunt County) where he graduated from high school and met his schoolmate and future wife, Norma Jean Simpson. The pair was blessed with four children---William H. (Bill) who died in infancy, Carrie Beth Bailey, Lisa Jean Bailey Ogden (Lane) and Lori Ann Bailey Burns (Robert) as well as grandkids Caitlin (Cameron Dotson), Brenna, RJ (Sidney) and Anna. Great grandchildren Everly, Arden, Wells, Leila, Eliza, Hudson and Stevi round out the group and were among his greatest treasures.
After high school, Dub served honorably in the US Army, Pacific Theater, as World War II drew to a close making him, unsurprisingly, a member of the “Greatest Generation”. He and Norma married 2/04/1950 and resided in the Dallas area where they raised their family and lived out the rest of their lives.
Dub was Owner/Dealer of the Mobil Station located at the SE corner of North Central and Royal Lane from 1964 to 2004. His was one of the last “Full Service” stations and he was committed to really providing service to the folks who came his way.
He continued to care for the farm throughout his life and to derive a great deal of pleasure from being in that business. On more than one occasion, however, he was heard to comment on how desperately he wanted away as a kid and young man only to find he could not get enough of “the farm” as he aged.
Dub was a man of honor and integrity. All who knew him well enough to discern, all who had the opportunity to enjoy his perpetual smile, his twinkling blue eyes and his giving spirit---universally—mourn his passing. Though our hearts are sad, our spirit soars in gratitude for having known him.
Absent from the body, present with the Lord.
Visitation is scheduled Monday July 1st, 5-7 pm, Restland, Dallas and a graveside service on Tuesday, July 2nd, 10 am, Lone Oak Cemetery, Lone Oak, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CC Young-Vista where Dub was well loved and cared for over the past year.
