Wallace Largent Holbrook's Obituary
HOLBROOK, WALLACE L., CSM (Retired), left this life in the early hours of February 25, 2007 for his heavenly home after a brief illness. He was the eldest of four children born to Lon Bryan and Grace Mildred Holbrook all of whom preceded him in death. Wallace was proud to be a professional soldier and served his country in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He valued the medals, awards, and campaign ribbons which were earned over a period of almost 30 years of service. He continued to share his military experience by serving as senior instructor in the Jr. ROTC Program at Lincoln High School, for which, in 1978, he was among four recipients of the Perot Foundation Teacher Awards for Excellence in Teaching. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 58 years, Dottie; his beloved daughter, Karen and her fiance’ Gary Woolfolk. Also surviving Wallace, are his sister-in-law, Marian Holbrook, nephews Michael Holbrook and wife, Rita, Pat Stroud and wife, Cindy, Bryan Stroud and wife, Carol. Other survivors include a number of great nieces and nephews, many loyal friends and an extended family of loving neighbors. Wally was gifted with a great loving heart, an ever ready smile, a wonderfully spontaneous sense of humor, and a happy and joyful rapport with almost everyone he met. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the doctors, nurses and support staff on the 8th and 10th floors of the Roberts Building at Baylor Medical Center for their excellent care. Wally’s happy heart and beautiful spirit will be forever missed by all of us who love him.
