Wallace Wayne Hopkins' Obituary
Wallace “Wayne” Hopkins, age 78, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2021. The youngest of seven children, Wayne was born April 9, 1942, in Krum, TX to Fred and Rosa Hopkins. Wayne was the last of four brothers to play basketball for the University of North Texas on scholarship from 1960-1964. He was a member of the Geezle Fraternity.
From a young age, Wayne was driven and worked his family’s farm. After many years in the red-mix industry, Wayne bought a sign structure company and constructed billboards all over the US.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sherry (Smith); daughter, Shannon; daughter-in-law, Maile; and grandchildren, Nate, and Chloe. He is preceded in death by his son, Jeff.
Wayne was a member of White Rock United Methodist Church and the 2x2 Sunday School class. He was devoted to his family, had a wicked sense of humor and always had a twinkle in his eye. He was happiest spending time with his family, going to the farm, traveling the world and golfing with his buddies. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
A celebration of life will be planned after Covid restrictions are lifted. Memorials may be made to Faith Presbyterian Hospice at 12477 Merit Drive, Dallas, TX 75251 or to the American Cancer Society.
