Walter Berry Bibby's Obituary
BIBBY, WALTER BERRY husband of Mary Ann Adams Bibby, passed away at his home in Dallas, Texas on July 8, 2010. Mr. Bibby was born September 13, 1923 in Birmingham, Alabama. He attended Birmingham public schools and Birmingham Southern College. In January of 1943, he joined the Army Air Corps and became a pilot. He was chosen to fly the B17 Bomber and was stationed in Eye, England. He was assigned to the 490th Bomb Group and the 849th Bomb Squadron and flew 35 missions during WWII and had three planes shot from under him. He earned the Air Medal with five silver stars, Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Presidential Citation with three battle stars. He was honorably discharged in August of 1945 and retired from the Air Force as a Captain. Mr. Bibby received his degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Auburn University in 1947. Before moving to Texas with his wife, they lived in Switzerland for a number of years and traveled extensively in Europe, Africa and the Far East. Mr. Bibby was President and Chief Executive Officer of Liquid Paper Corporation formerly headquartered in Dallas. He joined the company in 1967 as their third employee and when he sold the company in 1979 there were several thousand employees with offices or plants in Canada, Europe, Switzerland, Australia, Japan and the United States. Mr. Bibby was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Dallas Antiques and Fine Arts Society, and a patron of the Dallas Museum of Art and the Dallas Symphony for many years. He is survived by a son, Berry A. Bibby, of Enumclaw, Washington; grandchildren, Louis Berry Bibby and Katherine Elizabeth Bibby of Carrollton, Texas and Alexis Ann Bibby of Enumclaw, Washington, and a sister, Lona Billings of Birmingham, Alabama. Private graveside services and burial will be at Restland Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, or a charity of your choice.
