Walter Frederick Hachmeister's Obituary
HACHMEISTER, WALTER F. approached life with a goal to excellence. He was born in Northbrook, IL on August 3, 1920. He served in the US Army Air Corp. during World War II attaining the rank of Captain. He graduated from Northwestern University, Chicago, IL in 1955. He was appointed Comptroller for Kemper Insurance Companies in Chicago, IL and worked there from 1950-57. He started with The National Association of Blue Shield Plan. He worked there from 1957 to 1961. He came to the Texas Blue Cross Plan in 1961 and worked there until March of 1981. During that time he held the offices of Vice President, Senior Vice President and Executive Vice President. He held the office of President from January 1, 1979 until March of 1981. Walt played as hard as he worked. He was an Avid Golfer and due to his accounting skills was chosen as the scorekeeper by his golf buddies at the DAC. His lifelong goal was to shoot his age and on the day he turned 75 he achieved that goal. He was privileged to spend the rest of his day with friends and family celebrating his surprise birthday party. Walt loved the Chicago Cubs. He often spoke of going to his first baseball game at Wrigley Field with his father at the age of 6. It was one of the highlights of his life. He remained a true fan even when the Cubs were on a losing streak. He was a man of integrity and had a commanding presence. He was extremely intelligent and loved a challenging conversation. He had a great sense of humor and love of life. If you were lucky enough to be his friend, you knew the true value of friendship. He earned the respect of others and respected them in return. The world is less without him. Walt is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lee Hachmeister; daughter, Carol Rough, Wylie TX; son, Steve Hachmeister, Plano, TX; grandchildren, Seth Hachmeister, Houston, TX, Tara Hachmeister, Plano, TX, Scott Leutwyler, Whitewright, TX, Chris Chelette, Springdale, AR; and nephew, Rick Frigo, Des Plaines, IL. Visitation will be Thursday, January 10th, 2008 between 6:00 and 8:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be held at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, 12525 Inwood Rd., Dallas, TX 75244, Friday, January 11th, 2008 at 10:00 AM. Burial is to be held at Restland Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75243.
