Wanda Loyce Anderson Sherman's Obituary
Wanda Loyce Anderson Sherman, 85, passed away at her home in Terrell, Texas on December 1, 2023.
Wanda was born on February 11, 1938 in Dallas, Texas to William Frank Anderson and Ethel Mae Anderson and was the youngest of six children. For Wanda’s 12th birthday, her parents surprised her with a piano which began a lifelong love of playing. As a young adult, Wanda learned to play the organ and played for several churches, and from August 1987 until January 2001, she and her daughter, Brenda, served together as pianist and organist at Liberty Drive Baptist Church and Galloway Avenue Baptist Church. The piano that was gifted to her as a young girl still sits in her home today. For the past several years, Wanda played the piano every Sunday morning for her Sunday School class and had played as recently as the Sunday before she passed away. During Covid when the class met through Zoom, she would log on and play her preludes. Those Sunday mornings were truly the highlight of her week. She had a great love of gospel music, and if you were ever in her home on a Saturday evening, chances were the Gaithers would be playing on the TV.
Wanda and Fred enjoyed traveling and had been to every state by car except Hawaii and Alaska – and that was only because she would never get on an airplane! She enjoyed cooking, and in prior years when she was able, she loved to work in the yard and always had the prettiest yard on the block. At Christmas, she loved decorating her home and baked all sorts of Christmas treats that she loved sharing with her family, neighbors and church friends. Her great grandkids are going to miss her Christmas candy bags that among other goodies always included a Book of Life Savers.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, William Frank Anderson and Ethel Mae Anderson and siblings John Anderson, Roy Anderson, Evelyn Durant, Ruth Goodrich and Mary Jackson.
She is survived by her husband, Fred, of 56 years, children, son Ronnie King and wife Cathy, daughter Brenda Bates and husband Steve, grandchildren Becky Bryant, Phillip King, Bryan Bates and Stephen King, and great grandchildren Collin Bates, Braden Bryant, Lylie King, Austin Brown, Paityn Brown and Hudson Bates.
