Ms. Wanda Ruth Burton's Obituary
Wanda Ruth Burton, loving mother and grandmother, passed peacefully from this earthly realm to be with our Lord and Savior Monday morning, November 15, 2021, after a long battle with Alzheimer's/dementia. She was a member of Prestoncrest Church of Christ.
A farmer's daughter, Wanda was born to Eligha and Selma (Hooker) Melton in Hopkins County, TX on March 1, 1932. Wanda often shared stories about country life, growing up on a farm, and horseback riding. After graduation from Sulphur Springs High School, she moved to Dallas, TX. While attending Highland Park Church of Christ, she met Glen Burton. They were married on June 21, 1955, at Skillman Church of Christ. They had two sons, Mitch and Matt.
Wanda held various positions during her career in the Life Insurance industry and fondly recalled her service with the Richardson Independent School District.
Some of her treasured memories were those of friends from Church, being a founding member at Waterview Church of Christ, teaching Sunday School, taking care of her grandchildren, and reminiscing about the 1950's era of downtown Dallas when she worked at a life insurance company.
The family is appreciative and thankful to the caregivers at Prestonwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility after her long battle with Alzheimer's/dementia.
Wanda is survived by her sister, Pansy Pullen of Woodland Hills, CA; sons, Mitch Burton of Plano, Texas, and Matt Burton and wife, Michelle, of Plano, Texas; grandchildren, Callie Burton, Chas Burton, and Brittany Redfield and husband, Donyel; and two great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Braysen.
Funeral services for Wanda will be held at 2 PM on Monday, November 22, 2021, with visitation at 1 PM at Prestoncrest Church of Christ in Dallas, Texas.
Instead of flowers, Wanda’s family prefers donations made in Wanda’s honor to the Alzheimer’s foundation, Alzheimer’s Association - www.alz.org
