Wanda Geraldine "Gerry" Ragan's Obituary
Wanda Geraldine “Gerry” Ragan was born on November 7, 1933 in Meeker, OK and passed away on July 4, 2016 in Dallas, TX. Preceded in death by her parents Ernest Hester and Alice Newby Hester and her sister, Oma Faye Hester Knoch. She is survived by spouse, Don B. Ragan; daughters, Laura Ragan Chatham and Karen Ragan Smith; grandchildren, Brandt Ragan Smith, Sydney Ragan Smith, Gareth Alec Ragan Chatham and Griffin Bishop Ragan Chatham; and 2 brothers-in-law, Ken E. Ragan and Dan A. Ragan (June). At the age of 15, Gerry developed polio. While she was recovering in the hospital, she made the decision to become a nurse, so she could care for others. Gerry graduated from nursing school at Hillcrest Medical Center, Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1954. She spent the majority of her career caring for the elderly and retired in 1990 as the Assistant Director of Nursing at Presbyterian Village North, Dallas, Texas. She was devoted to her family, warm and gracious, and enjoyed hosting parties. Gerry was a woman with a quick wit, a sharp sense of humor, and an infectious laugh and smile. She adored and lovingly doted on her four grandchildren. Gerry was also a devoted fan of the Dallas Mavericks and rarely missed watching a game. She had a love of games and puzzles and nothing made her happier than spending time with friends and family. Family will receive friends on Friday, July 8, 2016 from 6:00PM – 8:00PM at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be held Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 11:00AM in The Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home.
