Wanda Sue Hanna's Obituary
Wanda Sue (Jones) Hanna was born on July 9, 1921, in Dallas to Roby Hansford Jones and Virginia (Vaughan) Jones. On Tuesday, July 18, 2017, 9 days after celebrating her 96th birthday with her family, she passed peacefully in her sleep. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Henry Alfred Hanna II (in 1975), 2 of her 5 children, Henry Alfred Hanna III and Wanda Jean Hanna. She is survived by many people she loved and cared for, including her children Celia & Troy Herndon, Roberta and Art Fisher and David and Cherie Hanna; her nephews and niece, Franklin Christie & John Murray, Roby and Renee Christie and Virginia (Christie) Francis: her grandchildren Heather and Eric Marks, Roberta Sue and Kevin Bryan; and her great grandchildren Kinsley and Zachary Marks and Britney and Logan Bryan. Wanda Sue attended North Dallas High School. She married Henry in 1940 in Rockwall, TX. She was devoted to her family. She loved to cook and sew and was an accomplished seamstress. She made costumes, gowns, uniforms, dresses etc not only for her family but also for her children’s school and extracurricular activities (e.g. drill team, cheerleading, dance school, etc.). Along with her administrative skills, Wanda Sue was especially gifted at arts and crafts. With her sister/partner, she established and helped run Craft Studio in Snider Plaza from 1969 to 1992. She was also active for many years in the PTA and the Minnehaha Arts and Crafts Club. One of Wanda Sue’s most endearing and lasting memories was her father’s statement to her and her sister (Roberta) that they would be each other’s best friend for life. How true that was as both were truly joined at the hip until Roberta’s death in 2009. She recalled in her memoirs that her mother urged her and husband Henry to have a second daughter as close in age as possible so that they too could be close like she and her sister were. It happened!! In addition to homemaking and her Arts and Crafts, Wanda Sue loved a party and to entertain. She lived life to the fullest. Cheers!! The family will receive friends on Friday, July 21, 2017, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Service to celebrate Wanda’s life will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at 2:30 PM in The Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
