Wanda Lee Lucius' Obituary
Wanda was born to Clarine and Egbert (Cricket) Permenter on July 6,1928 in Lamar County, Texas. She was raised on cotton farms along with her much younger siblings Scotty, Edie, and Jim, whom she helped raise. She graduated from Delmar High School and from Paris Junior College with an AA in Secretarial Study. She was also the state runner-up in tennis while attending college.
Wanda then moved to an apartment in the Swiss Avenue area of Dallas and worked for A&P Grocery. She met Johnny Lucius while playing softball in the Pleasant Grove/Balch Springs area and they were later married. They bought a house on Devonshire Dr. in Richardson in 1954 after establishing Lucius Electric Company. Wanda and Johnny were also excellent bowlers. Wanda even won a tournament! They bowled in leagues all over Dallas, but their home base was at Preston Forest Bowling Alley.
Their first child Gregory was born in 1955, followed by Cindy in 1957, and Susan in 1960. While raising the children Wanda helped with the electrical business, followed by a job at the Richardson Daily News and then as a volunteer at Richardson General Hospital. The family moved to Cheyenne Dr. in Richardson in 1964. When the kids were old enough, Wanda began what turned out to be a long career at Collins Radio/Rockwell International where she retired in 1992 after 25 years.
Wanda was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She loved to garden, play canasta and was an enthusiastic world traveler, having traveled to Tanzania, Kenya, Egypt, China, Iceland, Greece and most of Western Europe. Wanda loved Christmas and was an enthusiastic Santa Claus collector and was obsessed with decorating her yard for the Christmas decoration contest each year. She was a bright shining light in this world and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her son, Gregory Lucius and wife Rhonda of Austin, Texas, daughters, Cindy Lucius of Carthage, Texas and Susan Lucius of Murphy, Texas; 6 grandchildren: Layla, Chris, Travis, Hunter and wife Tiffany, Jonathan and wife Angel and Lindsey and husband Jonny; and 9 great grandchildren: Michelle, Jolene, Anicah, Gregory, Landon, Natalie, Ainslee, Quinn, and Mila.
