Wanda Wortham's Obituary
Wanda went to be with the Lord on February 25, 2020, after several years with ovarian cancer. She was born March 22, 1932, in Honey Grove, Texas, to the late Maudie and Marshall Clark. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Byron of 60 years in 2014, sister, Juanita Alexander and brother, Marshall Clark, Jr. After graduating from Honey Grove High School at the age of 16, she moved to Dallas. After a few years she met Byron on a blind date and soon married. She was employed by Southland Life and Braniff Airways. She worked as a secretary in the Human Resources Department at Braniff until their first child was born, Beth. She quickly became a homemaker and three years later delivered their second child, Cynthia.
She enjoyed traveling, decorating, working with her flowers in the yard and making their house into a home. Once the girls left for college, she attended floral design and word processing classes at Richland College. This led to further her love for making floral arrangements and other crafts. Later, she joined the Richardson Women’s Club and became an honorary member. There she made life-long friends and held several officer positions throughout the years. RWC was a very important part of Wanda’s life. She spent countless afternoons playing bridge with the ladies and evenings as couples. She enjoyed the Bridge, Gardening, Needlers and That’s Entertainment divisions of the club. Wanda made crafts to sell and ran the “Country Store” during the annual Home Tour fundraiser for many years. Her other passion for over 20 years was teaching the two-year old Sunday School class at both Highland Baptist Church in Dallas and First Baptist Richardson.
She is survived by her daughters Beth Wallace and husband, Terry, of Cypress, TX, Cynthia Spear and husband, Chris, of McKinney, TX; grandsons Alex Spear, Connor Wallace and his wife, Christa, Preston Wallace and niece, Gloria Wickersham.
We offer our sincere appreciation to her thoughtful neighbors and friends who sent cards, brought food and shared their gift of time with her. With gratitude, we extend our heartfelt thanks to our caregivers, Faith Nyagah and Grace Nyagah, for their compassionate care of our mother.
