Warren Day Travis' Obituary
Warren Day Travis passed away in Dallas, Texas on September 3, 2025, at the impressive age of 96. He was born on August 25, 1929, in Prescott Arizona to William Bliss Travis and Dorothy Day.
Warren grew up in Prescott Arizona and graduated from Prescott High School in 1947. He was a graduate of the University of Arizona in Tucson Arizona in 1951 with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. He enjoyed being part of a very large family – he was one of nine children born to William Bliss and Dorothy.
He proudly served in the US Army from 1951 to 1953 and was stationed in France. After the completion of his service to his country, he was employed as a Metallurgical Engineer by the Reynolds Metals Company in Phoenix Arizona from 1953 until 1962.
In 1961, he met Virginia “Ginger” Morgan while she was traveling across the country from New York to Arizona. They were married on June 17, 1961, in Phoenix, Arizona. They moved to Dallas, Texas in 1963 where he worked for Texas Aluminum, Howmet, and Intercontinental Manufacturing Company.
Warren & Ginger raised 5 children, took them on many annual road trip vacations to all corners of the continental United States, seeing practically every state capitol, national park, and Civil War battlefield. Warren retired in 1995, calling retirement the best job he ever had, enjoying more time to feed the squirrels and birds, swingtime in the backyard, and to spoil his many grand-dogs. He was very active in the Eastwood Neighborhood Association and faithfully served on the Volunteers In Patrol and Riparian Committee. He could also be found daily touring White Rock Lake with a pair of binoculars, checking up on his beloved white pelicans, the Bald Eagle family, and other birds. Most notably, Warren and Ginger enjoyed cocktail time every day until Ginger’s passing in 2024.
Warren was greeted in Heaven by Ginger and daughter Patricia. He is survived by children: Lynn Travis, Houston; Will Travis, Bethesda Maryland; Susan Travis, Dallas; and Mary Beth Travis, Dallas; three grandchildren, Katherine, John, and Michael Travis; along with dozens of nieces and nephews.
White Rock Lake is near and dear to Warren and the Travis family. For The Love of the Lake is a 501(c)(3) charity that supports the lake. White Rock Lake’s Celebration Tree Grove honors, celebrates, and remembers loved ones by supporting reforestation of White Rock Lake Park.
