Gene Wayne Buchter's Obituary
Gene Wayne Buchter passed away on February 17, 2016. Born on February 11, 1927, Gene grew up in Protection, Kansas, the son of Albert and Marie Buchter. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Gene attended Northwestern University in Oklahoma, where he met his first wife, Rosella Hawkey Buchter. After marrying Rosella, Gene transferred to Kansas State University, where he graduated with a double major in chemistry and math. His first job with Southland Life Insurance Company brought him to Dallas. Gene worked for Southland for 33 years and became a Fellow in the Society of Actuaries after passing all of his qualifying exams. He achieved the title of executive vice president and manager of actuarial research. After Rosella died in 1991, Gene married Louise Stark Buchter in 1994. She survives him, as do his children by Rosella, Jeanne Murdock of Grand Prairie, Texas and Dr. Susie Buchter of Atlanta, Georgia. Louise’s children, Jerry Stark of Dallas and Larry Stark of Denver, Colorado also mourn his loss, as do Louise’s five grandchildren and their spouses – Taylor and Nicole Stark and their son Will, Garrett Stark, Kenna and Ryan Nu’u, Kaman Stark, and Colette Stark, Sister, Hazel Linder of Wichita, Kansas. Gene loved politics, gardening, and travel and was an elder in Oak Cliff Presbyterian Church. A devoted husband, loving father, and friend to many, he will be greatly missed. Service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Restland Wildwood Chapel.
