Wayne Malvern Cowan's Obituary
Cowan, Wayne M. Born November 7, 1913 and passed away peacefully, surrounded by his grandchildren on December 22, 2007. Preceded in death by his wife, Edith Cowan. Survived by daughter, Judith Stoker; grandson, Darrell Stoker; granddaughter, Robin Monigold and husband Chris; granddaughter, Jamie Stoker; four great-granddaughters; brother, Gene Cowan; sister, Anna Beth Miller; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Wayne married his loving wife of 60 years on February 4, 1939. He attended John Tarleton Agricultural College where he was awarded Distinguished Alumnus and later inducted into the Hall of Fame. In 1941, he graduated with honors from the University of Texas with a degree in Geology. He served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII and later worked for the Army Corps of Engineers for 35 years. After retiring in 1972, he continued providing his expertise as a consultant through 1998. He will be remembered as a beloved coach for the Richardson Little League, Dallas Amateur Baseball Association, and U.T.D. Family will welcome guests for visitation at Restland Funeral Home, 6:30- 8:30 PM Wednesday, December 26, 2007. Interment will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, December 28, 2007, at Restland Memorial Park, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM at First United Methodist Church of Richardson, 503 N. Central Expwy. with Rev. Harold Rucker officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wayne’s memory to Happy Hill Farm Academy/Home, 3846 North Highway 144, Granbury, Texas, 76048.
