I only learned this evening of Coach Smith's passing. I was in one of his PE classes 7th grade PE classes the year that Sam Houston Jr. High opened. More than once in the past week, while watching the Paris Olympic Games, I've remarked how Coach gave us the opportunity to try so many different skills - especially in the track and field area. I was a low achiever, but I still appreciate the chances to try that he gave us all. I wish I'd had the chance to thank him during his lifetime. To him and his family, God bless. I'm glad that our life paths crossed.

Weldon was an outstanding person. My first teaching assignment was helping him with some Hugh PE classes at Garland high school. He showed me a lot. He and I taught together at Sam Houston JH for a number of years. He was the best.
