William D. Adkins' Obituary
William D. (Bill) Adkins, a resident of Allen, died Thursday, September 20, 2017, from pneumonia.He was a native of Grand Bayou, Louisiana, and Valedictorian of his high school graduation class. He entered college at age 15 and is an alumnus of Louisiana State University.Adkins was a retired comptroller of Gulf Oil Company (now Chevron). He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Plano, a Deacon and Stephen Minister. Adkins is a past president of the North Texas Central Chevron Retirees’ Association.He served in the Army Engineers and in 1945 was appointed to West Point, which he declined later to regret.Adkins is survived by his wife Joyce Lovett-Adkins, his step-daughter Lori Lovett-Carson, her husband Brent Carson, and step-granddaughter Caroline Carson (a junior at Allen High School).He is predeceased by his first wife, Ruth Lester Adkins, and further survived by son William D. Adkins III, daughter Ava Reis, grandsons Bill, Roy, and Nick Reis and each of their spouses.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 23, 1 PM, at Grace Presbyterian Church in Plano, with visitation 1 hour prior at the church. Graveside services will follow at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas. Officiating will be Jonas Russel, Interim Pastor of Grace, and Rev. Mark E Kennedy, Pastor of Vivian Presbyterian Church of Vivian, LA. Rev. Kennedy is pastor of the home church of Mrs. Lovett-Adkins.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
