William Harvey Barrett's Obituary
William H. (Bill) Barrett passed away on September 4, 2014 at the age of 96. Mr. Barrett graduated from Morrison High School in Illinois, where he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013. He graduated from Knox College in Galesburg, IL. in 1939. Bill joined the Army Air Corps in 1940, and became squadron glider operations officer of the 43rd Squadron of the 315th Troop Carrier during World War II. He married Charlotte Baylor Johnson in 1943. They moved to Dallas in 1952. Bill retired as President of Westco Materials in 1983. He was a long time member and leader at Central Congregational Church, and became vice president of Dallas Shared Ministries in the North Dallas area. Bill continued to participate in the “Charlotte Johnson Barrett Lectureship” at Baylor Sammons Cancer Center established by the Barrett family to honor the contribution Charlotte made to many cancer patients and their families. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte in 1982, and his devoted friend, Eloise Dickinson, in 2010. He is survived by his son, William (Barry) and his wife, Elizabeth of Fox Point, WI., his daughter, Mary of Dallas, grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael) Oberg, Amanda (Chad) Wilks and Abigail (Nathaniel) Gardiner, and 5 great-grandchildren. A memorial service for William Barrett will be held at Presbyterian Village North on Friday, September 19, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Private burial at the DFW National Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75238.
