William Spencer Bethune's Obituary
BETHUNE, WILLIAM S. was born August 19, 1919 in Bertrand, MO. He was called to be with his Lord and Savior on July 3, 2012. Spencer was a devoted husband, father, follower of Christ, Freemason, and Deacon in his church for more than 40 years. He was a remarkably good man and inspiring role model. His loving wife and devoted companion, Betty, left his side to be with the Lord in March of this year. He is also preceded in death by his parents and seven of eight siblings, with a surviving sister, Elizabeth Forbey. Spencer is also survived by his son Bill, Jr. and wife Jeri, his son Mike and wife Valarie along with children and grandchildren of each. Brad and fiance Kim with daughter Chloe, Jonathan and wife Jennifer with daughter Haylee, Alex and wife Naomi with son and daughter Richard and Sarah, Jennifer Sparks and husband Josh with children Dylan, McKenna and Lyric, Amanda Jackson and husband Beau with daughter Braleigh. He will also be missed by the many other family members and very dear friends. He graduated from Diehlstadt High School in Dielstadt, Missouri in 1940 after having to take a short break from school to help support his family. After serving in the U. S. Army during World War II he ultimately spent his career as a journeyman electrician and job superintendent as a member of IBEW Local 59. He managed construction on high rise buildings in downtown Dallas, as well as Collins Radio, East Texas State College, North Town, Big Town and Town East Malls. After taking an early retirement he lived his lifelong dream of a second career as a rancher in Direct, Texas. After fifteen years of successful ranching Spencer and Betty bought a home in Plano to be closer to their children and grandchildren. There they joined Hunters Glen Baptist church and made many more new friends. The legacy he left was a love for God, Family and Country, an example of a life whose riches were more than money, and a sense that anything is possible if you work hard. Thanks to all who participated in his final care at Garnet Hill Retirement Home. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00pm, Thursday, July 5th at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be held at 12:30pm, Friday, July 6th at Restland Memorial Chapel, officiated by Ed Fleming, Senior Adult Pastor at Hunters Glen Baptist Church.
