Basketball Bill was my coach and mentor for over 5 years.
i had no idea he had passed away but i did have a strange feeling in my gut the past few weeks. He had been on my mind.
He was an amazing Man of God.
He taught me so many wonderful life lessons about deliberate design. My favorite being that you can craft and design your own life, regardless of what has happened, and the magic moments of the past will be the fuel that gives you hope for a brighter tomorrow.
another one i choose to live by is "When you listen to the right voices , you will make the right choices". I know he is keeping God on his toes.
Thank you Bill for being part of my life. You will forever be remembered.

One saying Basketball Bill always quoted, and that I will always remember, "Never let a word of encouragement die on the tip of your tongue."

He was not afraid to make people smile and make the world a better place. He'll be missed, but his love for others will continue.

So, go out there, make that big splash, say those words and take that action. You never know how much time you truly have.

In 1965 Bill married my cousin Kay. I was one of the bridesmaids. Bill has always been larger than life. We visited several times and one of those times Bill had gotten a Dairy Queen store. He was so pleased to share his "perfect" soft serve ice cream...soft enough to be deliciously soft and smooth but firm enough for a perfect curlie q. Kay was an accomplished pianist and organist and she and Bill loved sharing music. One of his favorite songs was "They Call the Wind Mariah". Bill will be missed

It has been such an honor to know Bill Chafin. Dr. Jim and I had the privilege of taking him to lunch on his birthday the past few years. His favorite spot was Pappadeaux’s, and he never passed up the garlic shrimp — he absolutely loved those.

Bill was truly an extraordinary person. He had a way of lifting everyone around him, bringing light to a world that can often feel dark. His infectious energy, constant encouragement, and genuine care for others always left people smiling.

Rest in peace, Billy Boy. You will always be loved and remembered.
