Mr. William Richard Brothers' Obituary
William Richard “Dick” Brothers, 89, died November 20, 2023 in Irving Texas after a long illness.
He was born December 15, 1933 the son of William Brothers and Adelaide Carroll. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Villanova University, a master’s degree in U.S. history from Seton Hall University and a doctorate in education from Temple University.
He married Faith Heller in Merchantville, New Jersey on November 5, 1960.
He served in the New Jersey National Guard from 1957 to 1960. In 1960 he began teaching high school history and rose steadily through the ranks. In 1970 he became Principal of Kennett Consolidated High School in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. He then moved up to be Director of Curriculum for the East Penn School District in Emmaus, Pennsylvania. In 1987 he took the position of Assistant Superintendent for Rutland City Public Schools in Rutland, Vermont fulfilling a dream of returning to the state where he spent his childhood summers. He assumed the position of Superintendent of Rutland City Schools in 1991, retiring in 1996. In 2010, he and Faith relocated to Largo, Florida. Wherever he was he was a dedicated aficionado of railroads and model trains like the ones he took every summer to Vermont.
Survivors include his wife, Faith; three sons: Kevin (Sheila) of Alexandria, Virginia; Michael (Melissa) of Goodrich, Michigan; and Timothy of Ashburn, Virginia; a sister, Adelaide Palmer, of Hackettstown, New Jersey, a brother, Robert, of Easton Maryland; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary of the Lakes in Medford, New Jersey at 11:00 am on Friday, December 29th followed by interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hainesport, New Jersey.
