William Phillip (Phil) Brown's Obituary
William Phillip (Phil) Brown, was born April 16, 1926 to Amy and Hoyt Brown. He died November 1, 2020. He was 94 years old.
He attended high school in Bonham, Texas and after graduation in 1943 and on reaching his 17th birthday, he persuaded his father to sign a waiver that allowed him to join the US Navy. He served as quartermaster on the ship, LSM 317 in the South Pacific. His ship was engaged in a number of landings, earning four battle stars and three commendations from General McArthur and Admiral Kincaid.
After discharge from the Navy he entered UNT in Denton, where he earned his BA degree.
Most important to Phil he married his high school sweetheart, Edie Adams in 1947. Phil considered this his greatest accomplishment.
They have two sons, Phillip and Neel. They have three grandsons Taylor, True, and Will Brown and three great grandchildren, Kaylee, Nolan, and Tycho. His daughters-in-law include Lisa, Leslie, and Chay.
After graduation from UNT he entered the Marine and Lloyd‘s insurance business in Dallas. Later he joined the insurance agency Houseman and Company, where he became a partner. The agency later merged with Marsh & McLennan. When he retired from Marsh he was a managing director and head of Marsh‘s Dallas office.
The 1956 he and Edie helped establish a new Disciples of Christ congregation in Garland, Monica Park Christian Church. He served the church in just about every capacity, including several times as chairman of the board of deacons, board of elders, stewardship committee, evangelism committee, and for many years taught both high school youth and adult Sunday school classes. He was also one of the organizers of the church-sponsored Boy Scout troop.
Phil was active in several charities including the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, Feldman Trust for the Blind, Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas and others. He was particularly proud that he was named mayor of his Salesmanship Club class.
He held membership in several social clubs including Eastern Hills Country Club, Northwood Club, Preston Trail Golf Club and the Foursite Fishing Club
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was blessed to be able to travel with his sons and friends on a number of great hunting and fishing trips around the world.
His ranch near Rociada, New Mexico was a special place where he, Edie, and the family spent as much time as possible.
He was able to organize and take numerous trail rides, from the Brazos River to the Pecos Wilderness.
He enjoyed literature, history, poetry (both reading and writing), art, and producing welded sculpture.

Burial will be at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Veterans Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas 75211 on Thursday Nov 12 at 11:00. Family and friends are welcome. (If you plan to attend, it is suggested that you arrive no later than 10:40.)*
A memorial service will be held at Monica Park Christian Church on Saturday, November 21, at 1:30. The service will be outside, weather permitting.*
