William Ralph Campbell's Obituary
William Ralph Campbell (Billy), 66, died Sunday, August 22, 2021, in Dallas, TX.
He was born in Dallas, Texas on April 20, 1955, one of three children born to Dr. Robert Douglas Campbell and Mrs. Mary Jane (Carter) Campbell.
Billy attended Skyline High School participating in football and the swim team, Austin College in Sherman, TX, also on the swim team for a year and ultimately received a master’s degree in social work from the University of Texas at Arlington. After many years of social work caring for those less fortunate, Billy turned his full attention to music,
Billy enjoyed playing bass guitar and singing with various bands over the years. Gigs with his musician friends gave him great joy. The later part of his life included many happy memories with his wife Carol and grandson George who affectionately called him “Grand Dude”. Most of all, Billy loved his daughter Kelley whom he cherished.
A fond memory that Billy would recount is his time spent with his late father volunteering at The Stew Pot soup kitchen.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann Morris of Dallas, TX; daughter, Kelley Michelle Campbell of Dallas, TX; step-daughter and son in-law, Makenzie and Cody Hill of New Orleans, LA; step-grandson, George; his sister and brother in-law, Mary Jane (“Molly” Campbell) and David Roden of Alexandria, Virginia, as well as their children and grandchildren in Alexandria, VA, and both paternal and maternal aunts, uncles and cousins all residing in Texas.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Andrew “Andy” Campbell.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 2, 2021, at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, where services will be conducted in the Memorial Chapel at 10 a.m.
Private burial will follow at a later date.
