William (Dub) Edward Smith, Jr.'s Obituary
William (Dub) Smith, born on September 20, 1936 in Parsons, KS and passed away on June 11, 2016 in Garland, TX. Dub is survived by wife, Sybil Sue Smith; sons, Alan Smith, (Leasa Liles); Scott Smith, (Teresa); and daughter, Tracy Pence, (Dan), grandchildren, Stephanie Smith, Andrea Diaz, Travis Smith (Jamie), Benjamin Pence, Andrew Smith, Stacy Smith, great-granddaughter Berkley Smith, several brother and sister in-laws, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his father, William Edward Smith Sr., mother, Eliza Josephine Malone Smith, brothers Paul Edward Smith, Walter Howard (Wally) Smith and Wayne Smith. He married Sue, his high school sweetheart, on September 15, 1956 at the Washington Avenue Methodist Church in Parsons, Kansas. He served in the United States Navy from 1954 through 1958. After serving in the Navy, he moved his family from Parsons, Kansas to Garland, Texas where he worked at Texas Instruments for 33 years. He enjoyed watching, coaching and supporting his children and grandchildren. His hobbies included hunting, sporting events, golfing and reading. He was a faithful participant in many church activities and a strong member of the Nomads Sunday School Class and the Golden Classics at First Rowlett United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of William (Dub) Smith, Jr. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 from 6:00PM – 8:00PM at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at 10:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, Rowlett, TX. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
