Deacon William Evans Jr. (Paw)
Life began as the fourth child born to the union of William Evans Sr. and Saluane Evans on September 1, 1933, in Mt. Pleasant Texas. Deacon Evans accepted Christ in 1963 under the Pastoral of the late Elder James Mcrary Sr. at El-Bethel Church of God in Christ in Garland Tx. and continued to serve at Greater El-Bethel Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Superintendent Anthony McCrary Sr. his demise.
He received his education through the Mt. Pleasant School District. Deacon Evans married the love of his life, Essie Frances Evans on March 12, 1955. They were married for 68 years. With this union came four children: Loretta (Ann), Charles, Mike, Derry and one adopted granddaughter Ebony.
Deacon Evans departed from this world to his Heavenly home on December 28, 2023
He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother; W. M., three sisters; Mary Cole, Winnie Parker and Ossie Edwards.
Those left to cherish his precious memories: His loving wife Essie Evans, two daughters; Loretta (Anthony), Ebony, three sons; Charles (Estella), Mike and Derry, two sisters; Willie Buckingham, Martha Jones and
two brothers; Tommy Lee Evans, Henry Evans, 17 grandchildren, 20 great grands and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Paw was everybody's Paw. He was known in the neighborhood as the handyman, the electrician, the plumber, the yardman and whatever else you needed him to help with. He knew no stranger. Working at a grocery store. He would purchase groceries and placed them on peoples' porches. They knew that Paw had been by. He was an entrepreneur, owning and operating a local diner and a lucrative janitorial service.
Deacon Evans had a niche for Music. He was the church's first guitar player at El Bethel church. Everybody
loved his string thumping on Sunday.
EVERYBODY LOVED PAW....... Those who knew him were touched by his loving spirit and thoughtfulness.
His Favorite saying was, "Take it like a natural man." "
"I'm scuffling for my life."
