William Guckian's Obituary
Guckian, William Michael William Michael (Mickey) Guckian was born May 17, 1939, in Lockhart, Texas and passed away on August 21, 2011 in Dallas, Texas. He grew up in Lockhart with parents, Frank A. Guckian, Iola B. Kelley Guckian, brother, James C. Guckian, and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins. He graduated from Lockhart High School in 1957, enrolled at the University of Texas and graduated in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. While at UT he was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He met Loretta Holloway at UT, and they were married on August 4, 1962. He enrolled in the Southern Methodist University law school and graduated with a LLB in 1965. He worked with various engineering firms in Dallas from 1962-1975. In 1976, he joined the Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO) in Dallas , working in Environmental Safety and Health. He was responsible for purchasing engineering equipment for operations, establishing investigation and remediation programs at environmentally-impacted facilities, coordinating with regulatory agencies, and developing and implementing a complete regulatory compliance auditing program for ARCO. He established the regulatory compliance and audit program for ARCO’s world-wide operations. He retired from ARCO in 1999 and worked in a similar capacity as a consultant until 2010. He is pre-deceased by his father, mother and daughter Stacy Lynn. He is survived by Loretta, his wife of 49 years, son, Mark Robert Guckian and partner John Mays, son Kenneth Collins Guckian, daughter-in-law, Kristin Guckian and grandson, Trey Guckian, all from Dallas, brother James Collins Guckian, sister-in-law, Linda L. Guckian, and a special cousin (really a sister), Gerry Retherford Ohlendorf, and numerous other cousins, nephews and nieces. A visitation will be held at Restland Funeral Home on Tuesday August 23rd from 6:00 p m until 7:30 pm. A memorial service will be held at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church on Wednesday August 24, 2011 at 1:00 p m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to American Cancer Society Research Center.
