William Searcy Harbour's Obituary
Of Dallas, TX ‘ Born November 9, 1919 in Shreveport, LA. Passed away on December 19, 2007 at Baylor University Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with cancer and other afflictions. Survived by his wife (Geneva); 3 daughters (Linda, Nancy and Marilyn); 1 son (William); 5 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. He was a multi-sport athlete and participated in, coached and officiated baseball, football, basketball and golf. He won a college football scholarship but interrupted his sports career to serve in World War II, the Korean War, and later in the National Guard. Later, he played on the PGA tour, built several golf courses and was the golf pro at several clubs. He was the athletic director for the city of Dallas from 1955 to 1974, during which time he gave tirelessly of himself to promote sports and physical fitness, especially for underprivileged children. He then started a new career as a financial planner, passing his exams at age 65. As always, his mission in this new career was to help those that couldn’t help themselves, regardless of what they could do in return. He was a leader in many civic organizations and always placed an emphasis on helping disadvantaged children. He gave not only of his finances, but of his time and talents. He was the definition of generosity and selflessness, not only to his family and friends, but to all people who crossed his path. He had advanced degrees in Education and Business Administration, but his intellect and accomplishments never interfered with his ability to relate to all people, regardless of education and socioeconomic status. Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm at Restland Funeral Home on Greenville Avenue in Dallas on Saturday, December 22, 2007. A funeral service will be held at Wildwood Chapel at 2:30 pm on Sunday, December 23, 2007. Interment to follow.
