William O. Holston's Obituary
William O. Holston Born July 27, 1922 Millry, Alabama Bill Holston died on April 9, 2009. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Jill Holston and their sons, Will and Fred; son and daughter-in-law, Carter and Cheri Holston and their children, Chris and Chelsea. His beloved wife Flo preceeded him in death in 1997. She was the love of his life. He is also survived by three brothers, Tom, Sam, and Bud, and two sisters, Kate Anderson and Louise Thompson. Bill grew up in Alabama on a cotton farm during the great depression and worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps in the Siskyou National Forest in Southern Oregon. During WWII, Bill proudly served our country as a navigator on a B-24 Liberator in the 13th Air Force, 307th Bombardment Group, the Long Rangers, flying combat missions, from the base on the island of Morotai. He was a member of the Happy Warriors, a group of local military veterans. Bill was very active in the Republican Party of Alabama in the 1960 and 70’s. In 1972, Bill moved his family from Mobile, AL to Richardson where he remained until his death. He worked in business for many years, retiring in the 90’s. After retirement, he assisted his wife Flo tutoring English as a second language primarily to Japanese students. He loved baseball and football, particularly the Crimson Tide of the University of Alabama, which he attended after WW II. A member of the greatest generation, he was hard working, fiercely patriotic, and a devoted friend and brother. He died peacefully in his sleep. Services will be 10:00 AM, Monday, April 13, 2009 at Restland Wildwood Chapel with visitation 1 hour prior to service.
