William Keng Joe's Obituary
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of William Keng Joe on March 17, 2024 at the age of 89. Born on April 16, 1934 in Hoi Ping, China, William brought joy to everyone with whom he shared his life. His jovial nature and generous spirit were a beacon of light and warmth to his family, friends, and anyone who knew him.
After attending the University of Mississippi, William joined the family grocery business. With his wife, Shean, he opened and operated Wah Nam Restaurant, one of the first Chinese restaurants in the Memphis area, for over 30 years. William was passionate about fishing on his beloved Otter Lake, enjoyed Tuesday night bowling with friends, and served as a member of First Chinese Baptist Church in Memphis where he actively participated in the Evergreen Club.
William is survived by his wife of 60 years Shean Hui Joe; daughters Mary Toy (Phil), Betsy Wong (Paul), Patricia Kok (Edward), and Alice Joe; brother Penn Joe (Clara); grandchildren Jonathan Toy, Timothy Toy, Sarah Wang, Rebekah Wong, Matthew Kok, and Caroline Kok as well as nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.
The Joe Family invites you to celebrate William’s life on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 2:00pm at The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243, followed by a reception at Asian American Baptist Church, 801 W. Campbell Road, Richardson, TX 75080. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center with a special designation to the Simmons Cancer Center, whose skilled staff cared for him with compassion and dedication.
