William O. Jones' Obituary
William O. ( Bill ) Jones passed away at age 85 on October 30th, 2021 at his home in Mesquite.
Bill was born on July 25, 1936 in Anton, Texas to parents Elmer Lee and Willa Mae Jones. He grew up in Granbury and Dallas, and attended Dallas Tech High School, where he played football. Bill also served in the U S Army, and was a member of the St. Marks United Methodist Church in Mesquite.
In 1957 Bill married the love of his life, Mary Jo, and they made their home in Mesquite and raised their family there. Bill was employed as a supervisor by Slocum Printing Company from 1957 until he retired in 1992. Bill enjoyed sports and enjoyed being around youngsters, and he coached little league football and baseball in Mesquite for 8 years. During his coaching stint he had the pleasure of coaching his son Bodie in both football and baseball, and his daughter Susan was a team mascot and cheerleader. Bill and Mary Jo were blessed with a large loving family and many close friends. Bill was affectionately. nicknamed Papaw by all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bill was an avid and very accomplished golfer, and he and Mary Jo were members of Van Zandt Country Club for many years. Bill was quite a golf competitor and played in both individual and partnership golf tournaments in the north and east Texas area, and won many times.
Bill and Mary Jo enjoyed going to the casinos and playing the "slots'. They also enjoyed the horse races, and they spent many of their wedding
anniversaries at the Hot Springs race track with their friends and with-their family.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jo, brother Elmer Jones, his sisters Ola Mae Jones, Iva Dean Smith and Daphene Garren.
He is survived by step brother Frank Lewis, daughter Susan Pool and her husband Mike, son Bodie Jones; grandchildren Bret Jones and his wife Andrea, Nick Kirby and his wife Patty, Cheyenne Bodie Jones and his wife Stephanie, Chelsie Weems and her husband Ben, and Ryan Jones and his wife Emily, Renae Stolly and her husband Jason, Dacey Gonzalez; great grandchildren Mikayla Adkins and her husband Alex, Bret Jones Jr., Noah Kirby, Mariah Kirby, Renee Kirby, Jay'dn Kirby, Brenden Harris, Jack Stolly, Joey Stolly, Izzie Gonzalez, Jael Gonzalez, Landry Jones, Kenleigh Jones, Skylin Weems, Londyn Weems, and Logan Weems; great great grandson Azael Pargas and a large number of loving nieces and nephews.
