William Foster Karnes Jr.'s Obituary
KARNES, WILLIAM FOSTER born March 14, 1930 in Corsicana, Texas and was called home by his Father March 16, 2014 in Plano, Texas, at the age of 84 years. Bill was an avid aviation enthusiast, buying his own airplane at the age of 71. It was a culmination of years of hard work and dedication to the discipline of aeronautical science. He was a founding member of SCTE, The Society of Telecommunications Engineers, with a membership’s number of 00001 and was also recognized in the Cable Television Hall of Fame. Bill was also a successful businessman presiding over companies such as Sammons Cable and numerous private ventures. Bill was also deacon at Heights Baptist Church where he enjoyed the fellowship for several years. He spoke often of his love for the friendships and fellowship he enjoyed with his church family. Bill spoke often of his times with the “Romeo Club”, the Retired Old Men Eating Out. Such a club it was! They enjoyed solving the world’s problems, food and fellowship at The Southern Recipe several times a week for many years. Mr. Karnes was a veteran of the Korean Conflict with the Air Force of the United States and the Texas Air National Guard, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, William Foster Sr. and Edna L. Karnes and son, Carl Foster Karnes. Mr. Karnes is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Diane; his children, Stephen and wife, Annette, Michael, Pamela and Jane; and his grandchildren, Kristy, Brandy, Darian, Ryan, Bria and Raegan. Viewing will be held at Restland Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, Texas Friday March 21, 2014 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A celebration of his life will be Saturday March 22, 2014 at 2:00 PM at The Heights Baptist Church 201 W. Renner Rd in Richardson.
