William T. Lowrey's Obituary
William “Bill” Thaddeus Lowrey was born on August 8, 1922 in Fort Worth, Texas, just before the doctor arrived. His father called it Bill’s first “do-it-yourself” project. Bill was raised in Fort Worth, Texas until his high school years when the family moved to Waco, Texas where he graduated from Waco High School in 1941.As America entered World War II, Bill enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corps. He served from September 19, 1942 until October 16, 1945 at Deopham Green Airfield near Norwich, England as an airplane mechanic servicing B-17s, including during D-Day. His f*avorite B-17 was called Smoky Liz. He remembered restoring her when she returned from a mission with 700 bullet holes. As the war ended Bill returned to American shores and received an honorable discharge. After a stint with the commercial airlines, Bill went to work as a salesman with American Tobacco Company in Fort Worth, Texas. His friend and boss at the time introduced him to a recently arrived Kansas farm girl, Anna Carolyn Brown, at a Texas Christian University football game. Eventually they were married April 15, 1950 in Fort Worth and over the coming years Bill and Carolyn became proud parents of three children: Debra, Kimberly and Curtis. As he and Carolyn retired, they were happy to spend time with each other and with their grandchild Joanna. Carolyn died in 1998. After her death, Bill spent his time with family and with his Bible studies. Bill died on January 30, 2019 of natural causes at the age of 96. He was a wonderful father, a man of God, Family and Country. We are happy to honor his memory. He will be sorely missed.Bill is survived by his daughter Debra Maxwell and son-in-law Larry Maxwell of Garland, TX; daughter Kim Lowrey of Fayetteville, AR; son Curtis Lowrey of New York, NY; and granddaughter Joanna Deering of Garland, TX.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity Jewelers for Children or a charity of your choice.Visitation for Mr. William Thaddeus Lowrey will be held on Sunday, February 3, 2019, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home.
