Mr. William Frederick Malcolm's Obituary
MALCOLM, WILLIAM FREDERICK (BILL), was born in Texarkana, Arkansas, May 23, 1927, and died November 4, 2007, in Richardson, Texas. He was predeceased by his parents Ed and Joida Malcolm of Texarkana, Arkansas. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marguerite Nelson Malcolm; two sons and their wives, Mark and Kim Malcolm and Matt Malcolm and Kelly Callaway; two brothers and their wives, Ed and Grace Malcolm of Texarkana, Arkansas and Robert (Dusty) and Sue Malcolm of Little Rock, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Rob and Hailey Malcolm; a sister-in-law, Wanda Nelson of Walnut Creek, California; several nephews and their wives, Bruce and Molly Beth Malcolm, Bill and Joanna Malcolm, Clark and Judy Malcolm, Alan and Nancy Malcolm, Jim and Bea Malcolm and Clark Nelson; and care-giver Ruth Philipps, other family members and many friends. Bill earned his undergraduate degree from Henderson State Teachers College, Arkadelphia, AR and his Master’s degree from George Peabody College for Teachers, Nashville, TN. Bill taught Social Studies and coached in Texarkana, Texas from 1950-1955, and Odessa, Texas, from 1955 to 1961. Bill and Marguerite moved to Brownfield, Texas, in 1961, where he was principal at Oak Grove and Colonial Heights Schools. They moved to Richardson in 1967, where Bill became principal of Richardson I.S.D.’s Mohawk Elementary School. He was eminently successful, respected, and beloved in this position. Later he was the Area Director of Elementary Education for the J.J. Pearce area. He became the Assistant Superintendent of the L.V. Berkner area in 1982. He was known for his sense of humor, his remarkable memory for names, and for attending all of the school activities. He retired from the Richardson I.S.D. in 1989 after 39 years of dedicated service and outstanding leadership. Bill held numerous lifetime memberships and was formally honored by many groups including the National Parent-Teacher Association, the Texas Legislature, the Parent-Teacher Association of Texas, and the city of Richardson. The accomplishment of which he was most proud was being elected an Elder in the Presbyterian Churches in Odessa, Brownfield, and Richardson. Bill was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He lived a life of exemplary service to his Lord, his family, and his fellow man. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. November 26, 2007 at Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church, 3901 North Star Rd., Richardson, TX, with The Rev. Dr. Don Lewis officiating.
