William Henry Mathewes' Obituary
MATHEWES, WILLIAM HENRY born October 29, 1921 in Ruston, LA and passed away April 21, 2014 in Dallas, TX. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Helene Hagerty Mathewes and his son, Michael Hagerty Mathewes; his parents, John Henry and Elizabeth Mathewes; his brothers, Wesley and Everett and his sisters, Margie Richardson and Estelle Harrison. After serving 4 years in the Army Air Force and a gunnery staff sergeant and graduating from Louisiana Tech in 1948, Bill started his 35 year career at Mobil Oil Company. He married Helene Marie Hagerty on March 25, 1949. He was active in the Boys Scouts from 1965 to 1988 earning the Silver Beaver Award for his service. He worked on the ballot board for many years after retirement. He loved camping, hunting, playing games, watching sports and reading. “Daddy Bill” was a generous and loving man to his family and friends. They will miss his humor, intelligence, patience, guidance and support. He is survived by his children: Marsha (Doug) and Patrick (Sera); grandchildren, James and Joshua (Tammy); and great grandchildren, Morgan and Ethan; 2 sisters, Gladys Wilson and Ethel Cottrell; sister-in-law, Eloise Mathewes and 9 nieces and 7 nephews. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, April 28, 2014 at Restland Memorial Park.
