William Dal McKenzie, better known as Dal, resident of Dallas, TX, passed on to his eternal reward on February 6, 2017 at Zale Lipshy Hospital in Dallas. He was 91. The family will receive friends Friday, February 10, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at Restland Funeral Home. Services are planned for Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Royal Haven Baptist Church. Dale Wilson along with Pastor Gene McBride of Royal Haven Baptist Church will be officiating. Dal was born on September 25, 1925 to William and Margaret McKenzie in Matador, TX. He attended school in Kemp TX where he fell in love with and later married his sweetheart Dorothy Mae Thompson on November 25th 1942. They were married for 59 years prior to her death in 2001. Dal received the Lord Jesus as his Saviour at the age of 12 and was baptized in a tank on the family farm. He has been a long¬time member of Royal Haven Baptist Church in Dallas. After holding various jobs, Dal eventually began a career with Manor Baking Company in Dallas where he worked for 44 yrs. He retired in from Manor in 1990. Dal and Dorothy raised nine children: Curtis; Billy; Carolyn; Danny; Kathy; Lonnie; Sandra; Paul and Margaret. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister, his wife Dorothy, his 2 oldest sons, Curtis and Billy and 1 grandson, Reagan Dal McKenzie. He is survived by 3 sons: Danny McKenzie; Lonnie McKenzie; Paul McKenzie and wife Grizel. He is also survived by 4 daughters: Carolyn Wilkinson; Kathy Wyler and husband Quentin; Sandra Wilson and husband Dale and Margaret Crittenden and husband Calvin. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, by 2 brothers: Scottie McKenzie and Jimmy McKenzie; as well as many nieces and nephews. Dal was a hard working man who would do anything for any member of his family. He loved playing with and teasing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was their beloved Papa and was loved dearly by each one. His life was guided by his faith and his great love for his family. Family get togethers were the highlight of his life. He always wanted a “head-count” at each gathering. He also loved his dogs – many, many dogs over the years. Big dogs – little dogs – he loved them all. Each one was his baby. He seemed to always have one (or several) on his lap or laying next to him on the sofa and then on the bed with him at night. He also enjoyed growing a big vegetable garden every Spring and keeping a big fire going in his fireplace in the winter. Dal’s life was characterized by his complete lack of selfishness and willingness to always put his needs aside and do what was needed for others – especially for his family. He never stopped missing his Sweetheart and often mentioned that she was probably making a long honey-do list for him in Heaven. His family is comforted today, knowing they are now reunited forevermore. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
