William Clarence Rampy's Obituary
William ‘Bill’ Clarence Rampy, 92, of Georgetown, TX was born February 25, 1930 in Slaton, TX to Walter Elias Rampy and Thelma Richardson Rampy and passed away on February 15, 2023. He was married to Dorothy Alice Rampy on August 25, 1950 in Wichita Falls, TX. In his teens, he started working as a printer at the Wichita Falls Daily Times. He later briefly worked for a couple of other major newspapers. Around 1960, he made “one of the best decisions” when he joined The Wall Street Journal in Dallas, TX. He was a very long-standing member of the Communication Workers Association-International Typographical Union. During the 1970s, he was an active member of the Roy Stanley Masonic Lodge and also became a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Free Mason.
He very much enjoyed watching and listening to college football and Major League Baseball – especially with his favorite teams, the Oklahoma Sooners and the Atlanta Braves. For several years, he owned horses as part of another past-time, that of horse racing. Bill started drawing for fun as a kid, mostly drawing comics and cartoon characters. Yet, he would continue to draw off and on over the years including a big resurgence during the COVID pandemic.
He served in the Army as a Wire Operator from 1952 through 1954, stationed primarily in Salzburg, Austria. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Alice
Rampy, brother Walter David Rampy, sisters Thelma Louise Wilson and Virginia Lee Reeder and nephew Walter Reeder. He is survived by his son, Bill Alan Rampy, grandchild Erin Manon Rampy, great-grandchildren Eva Maya Rampy and Juliet Anais Rampy, nieces Shelly Durbin and Deanna Graves, nephew John Reeder and many other family and friends. Throughout life, he never met a stranger, making friends with everyone he met. But, without a doubt, his family was his life. His and Dorothy’s marriage was a real-life love story and he cared for her so tenderly until the day she joined the angels in heaven in 2010. His commitment to family shined brightly as shown by his close and unwavering support for his son, Alan, then followed up with so much love dedicated over so many years caring for his grand-daughter. He and Dorothy always made sure to keep the family ties so strong and connected.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm, Sunday, February 26th, 2023 at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas, TX, with visitation preceding at 1:00pm
