William Loyyd Robbins' Obituary
Bill grew up in Plano, Texas and graduated in 1943. After a semester of college he enlisted in the Navy and served until 1945. He then attended East Texas State and graduated with a master degree in 1950. While at ETS he met and married Elizabeth Weaver in 1950. They had two sons, Tommy Doak and Robin. Bill taught and coached at several high schools in East Texas before moving to Dallas and went to work for Southland Life Insurance for three years. Bill missed teaching and coaching so he went back to work for DISD and worked there from 1957 to 1985. He taught at John H. Brown, George B. Dealy and Dan D. Rogers. Bill, who became known as Coach, taught a variety of subjects and coached football, basketball and track. Coach Robbins was best known as the disciplinary P.E. Coach; where he will be remembered for the infamous sitting on the wall discipline. Former students will remember “get on the wall slick.” Bill also was a part time employee for 7-eleven from 1980-2000. Bill was a devoted husband, father, teacher and coach. He touched and influenced many lives. He is loved by many and will be missed. Visitation will be on Monday, December 3, 2012 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home.
