William Romans Sr.'s Obituary
Born to William Nephi Romans and Ruby Hastey Romans on August 23, 1923 in Memphis, Tennessee and passed away at the age of 91 on January 4, 2015. Bill served in the U S Army attached to the Air Force beginning in March of 1943 and served as his unit’s radio operator and was stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines. After returning home he enrolled at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1951. He later received a Master’s Degree in Bio Medical Engineering from Southern Methodist University. Bill was offered and accepted a career move to Dallas with what is now the University Of Texas Southwestern Medical School (UT Health Science Center). Bill enjoyed his work on designing implementation equipment for medical research physicians as well as teaching at Dallas area universities. Bill was the Assistant Professor of the Bio Medical Engineering Laboratory and the Director of the Bio Engineering Department where he enjoyed his thirty one year career. Bill met and married Mildred Rader in 1949 and they began their family in Memphis, TN before his move to Texas. Millie died in 1987 just after Bill’s retirement. In 1991 Bill married Glenna Melton Williams and began a new chapter in his life traveling the world, visiting friends and discovering new places. Bill was an active member and enjoyed the fellowship at Wilshire Baptist Church. Bill was preceded in death by Mildred and grandson Ross Edward Romans. Bill will be greatly missed and is survived by his loving wife, Glenna, his sister, Annie Romans and children Jean Trebert, Susan Hieb (Lee), William (Bill Romans Jr. (Dee), Robert (Bob) Romans, Vicki Barrett (Steven), Lori Gooden (Wayne), Mark Williams (Lesa), Michael Williams (Gale), twelve grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren. The visitation for Bill will be held on Wednesday, 1/7/15 from 6-8pm at Restland Funeral Home. The service will be held on Thursday, 1/8/15 at 11:00am at Wilshire Baptist Church McIver Chapel. A private graveside service will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wilshire Baptist Church.
