William Rufus (Bill) Cox Sr.'s Obituary
Bill Cox was born in Wilburton, Oklahoma on September 9, 1925, the middle child of five children. Bill attended Wilburton High School and graduated shortly after the invasion of Pearl Harbor. He went with his older brother and cousin to join the Navy and served his country in the south pacific through World War II. He married Elva Maude Hunt on July 5th, 1944, and recently celebrated 71 years of marriage. Shortly after the war, Bill worked as a store manager for T.G. & Y. Stores, then joined Jack’s 5 & 10 as a business partner. In 1959, Bill & Maude made the decision to sell their house in Oklahoma and move the family to Dallas so Bill could attend Dallas Bible Institute. (Later known as Dallas Bible College). Upon completion of college, Bill became business administrator for Dallas Bible College. During Bill’s tenure at Dallas Bible College, he helped one of his sons, Dan purchase the repair department of McGatlin Instrument Company. He taught Dan and Debbie to set up the accounting system and worked in helping set up the purchasing system and related business activities. Bill joined Dan Cox Company as a full time partner and employee in about 1987 to help grow the business. In 1989, Dan Cox Company was purchased by Eclipse, Inc. Bill retired about a year later. In 1998 Bill and Maude moved from Mesquite, Texas to Tecumseh, Oklahoma. They joined First Baptist Church in Tecumseh. Bill worked with the men’s fellowship team to construct the Sunday school classroom building and various other construction and repair projects around the church. Bill and Maude moved to Go Ye Village in Tahlequah, Oklahoma after Bill developed heart and memory problems. He went peacefully in his sleep to be with the Lord on February 24, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Maude , three sons, Bill Jr., Tom and Dan, two daughters Mary Ann and Joy, 11 grandkids and 13 great grandkids. Graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, March 3, 2017 at Restland Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted into Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas, 75243.
