Mike was a key person for us at Sunkist. His management of our Southern Division was critical to millions of dollars of revenue for our company every year. All of us who knew Mike respected his contributions, his integrity and his friendship with employees and customers alike. One of the great stories I ever heard and relayed to me about Mike was when he vacationed into the Northeastern part of the U.S. in the 1980s. While New England was a cultural and geographical anomaly for Mike, he was undeterred when he visited there only to be disappointed by not being able to find a covered bridge. Frustrated after driving and searching unsuccessfully, he stopped at a country farmhouse, fearlessly walked up to the door and proclaimed, " I'm Mike Scoggins, I'm from Dallas and I'm looking or a covered bridge. Can you help me?" It was because he was folksy, loveable and sincere that these Northern Country folks invited him in and eventually took him for a ride in their car to see the covered bridge he so much wanted to see. What a cultural blending that must have been. But then again that was Mike: bridging cultural gaps and divides wherever he went. Mike was a great friend and I always enjoyed my visits with him and playing golf whenever we got together. I have on my counter in the kitchen a cherry wood holder for spoons 1/4, 1/2, 1 tsp and 1 tbl spoon. I have had these for over 41 years and they are in continue use and give me a memory of Mike everytime I use one of them or even look at it.

To the Family of Mike Scoggins. I had the pleasure of working with Mike until he retired from Sunkist. I started in 1974 and as the rookie Mike was always available to answer questions & point me in the right direction for which I reamin forever greatful to this day. To those of us still in Sunkist that had the pleasure of working with Mike remeber him as always willing to help you while always there to keep you straight it was needed. The Sunkist Southern Division led by Mike was always out front in sales. We will not see thier like again. Today Sunkist Growers, Inc. maintains one of the top brand names in the world. This would not have been possible had it not been for people like Mike and his Southern crew. To thos of us that had the pleasure, he is remembered as always a gentleman and always a friend and always with some great jokes. I can still see his smile and still hear his voice. Mike is fondly remembered by all of us who had the privilege of working with him. Reading his obituary reveals an excellent life well lived. I am pleased that the Good Lord gave him 9 decades. His family and his colleagues know he earned it.

To Mike's family, Please accept my condolences during this most difficult time. Memories will get you through. Speaking of memories, I have some of the fondest memories of Sunkist Sales meeting in the Southern Division Hospitality Room listing to Mike and his boys spin a yarn. They could all go on for hours and kept you laughing until you would think you could laugh no more. Such a great guy.
