Mike was a key person for us at Sunkist. His management of our Southern Division was critical to millions of dollars of revenue for our company every year. All of us who knew Mike respected his contributions, his integrity and his friendship with employees and customers alike. One of the great stories I ever heard and relayed to me about Mike was when he vacationed into the Northeastern part of the U.S. in the 1980s. While New England was a cultural and geographical anomaly for Mike, he was undeterred when he visited there only to be disappointed by not being able to find a covered bridge. Frustrated after driving and searching unsuccessfully, he stopped at a country farmhouse, fearlessly walked up to the door and proclaimed, " I'm Mike Scoggins, I'm from Dallas and I'm looking or a covered bridge. Can you help me?" It was because he was folksy, loveable and sincere that these Northern Country folks invited him in and eventually took him for a ride in their car to see the covered bridge he so much wanted to see. What a cultural blending that must have been. But then again that was Mike: bridging cultural gaps and divides wherever he went. I have wonderful memories of Mike as a dedicated employee and terrific person. Larry Beston National Sales Director Sunkist Growers, Inc
