William Jay Seely's Obituary
William Jay Seely, 88, of Dallas, Celeste, and Spring Texas passed away on Wednesday April 29th in Montgomery County, surrounded by “his redheaded girls”. He was born in Dallas on February 25, 1938, to Edwin Jay Seely and Alice Marie Jones.
In 1956, Jay graduated from South Oak Cliff High School and entered the United States Navy, where he served honorably on a “kiddie cruise” on the carrier USS Bennington until 1958. Following his discharge, he joined Procter & Gamble Company, where he retired as an electrician when they closed the Dallas plant 32 years later. He served on the P&G golf committee and on the board of directors for the P&G Credit Union for 10 years.
He courted Sandra (nee Golden) on a motorcycle, and married her in 1978, then spent 48 years saying “whatever Sandra wants”, and smiling while she chatted with folks. His last words were “I love you” to Sandra. He wasn’t a man of many words, but he knew how to say the important ones.
Jay spent his happiest years in early retirement, tending his farm and cattle in Celeste, and getting coffee at the Kwik Chek with his P&G buddies. He attended Celeste Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.
In 2012 he and Sandra moved to Spring Texas to be close to their only grandchild. They joined Spring Baptist Church, and he developed a man cave in his garage filled with tools and P&G memorabilia where he loved to read and snooze his way through soccer games.
He is survived by wife, Sandra, son Jack (Robin) of Tyler, daughter Amber of Houston, granddaughter Zoe Ginn, and siblings Millie Davis of Brenham, Richard Seely (Glennis) of South Africa, and Karen Gibson (Gary) of Frisco.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of The Woodlands and Vitas Inpatient Hospice Unit at Ridgewood for their kindness and supportive care.
A visitation will be held at 9:30am on Monday May 4 at the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home Memorial Cemetery, with a service to follow at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your favorite charity
