William Decker Smith Jr.'s Obituary
William Decker Smith, Jr. passed away on March 5, 2017, in Plano, Texas. Decker was a committed Christian, and we are confident that he is in heaven with Jesus. Decker was born in Texarkana, Arkansas on August 24, 1928. He was one of twin sons born to Dr. William Decker Smith, Sr., and Lucille McDaniel Smith. Decker was raised in Texarkana until he attended and graduated from Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana. Following his graduation from Culver, Decker attended the University of Virginia. After transferring to Southern Methodist University for his final two years of college he was then accepted to law school at SMU. After passing the bar exam, he was licensed by the State of Texas to practice law. Decker had a 35 year career with State Farm Insurance and was a Claim Superintendent when he retired. Decker loved photography and golf. He enjoyed planning vacations and played many beautiful golf courses while vacationing around the United States. His favorites were in Hawaii and Kiawah Island, South Carolina. Decker was a longtime member of Clear Lake United Methodist Church. He was very active in helping to form the church in its early days. Over the years he had many roles, ranging from Sunday School Superintendant to working in the sound room. Church was very important to Decker and he met many of his longtime friends there. Decker treasured his family. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth; his daughter, Jill Smith Webb and her husband, Randy; daughter Jennifer Smith Kelleher and her husband, Patrick; granddaughters Abby and Holly Webb; and his beloved cat, Murray. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Restland Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Restland Memorial Park. with a reception will be at 11:30 am at the Restland Reception Center. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
