William Henry Temple's Obituary
William Henry “Duck” Temple, passed away on May 12, 2010, seven days prior to his 94th birthday. He was born on May 19, 1916 in Grandview, Texas to William Henry Temple and Ruth Elizabeth Benton Temple. He attended schools in Johnson County, graduating from Cleburne High School at Cleburne, Texas in 1938. After attending the University of Central Arkansas for two years on a football scholarship, he enlisted in the U.S Navy serving from August 31, 1940 to July 25, 1946. He survived the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 as a crewmember on the battleship U.S.S. California and went on to serve at naval air bases in Hawaii, Guadalcanal, the New Hebrides and the Phillipines. He married Ruth Adelaide Crowe in Kalispell, Montana on April 21, 1945. After receiving his BBA degree from Baylor University at Waco, Texas in 1949, they made their home in Dallas. Employed by Mobil Oil Corporation for 23 years, he retired in 1973 to raise wheat and cattle on his farm in Delta County. Bill and Ruth Temple are long-time members of the Mr. & Mrs. class at White Rock United Methodist Church. An avid Baylor fan, he followed the college’s sports until his death. Predeceased by his son, David Temple, Bill is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Ruth, daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jay Welch, daughter-in-law, Iris Stone Temple Ball, and three grandchildren, Andrew Welch, Jennifer Temple Mangrum, and Laura Temple. He was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed. A service will be held at Restland on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in Restland Wildwood Chapel. A family burial service will be held at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on Monday, May 17, 2010 at 11:00 a.m.The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff of VITAS Innovative Hospice Care for the care and support they provided in his last months.
